The Ultimate In Portable Sonar Power, Longer Runtimes

The Ultimate In Portable Sonar Power, Longer Runtimes

Norsk Lithium® 30AH and 50AH batteries produce the juice for today’s fishing tech

Powering today’s fishing technology—especially forward-facing units in shuttles—has left a lot of anglers wishing for more reliable power and longer runtimes. And that’s in addition to the lighter weight, a smaller footprint, rugged features, and a solid warranty.

Enter Norsk Lithium’s new line of 14.8v 30Ah and 50Ah batteries, both of which were designed to be the ultimate solution for powering forward-facing devices like Garmin LiveScope, Humminbird MEGA Live and MEGA Live 2, and Lowrance Active Target 1 & 2.

In terms of application, there are three primary uses for these revolutionary new batteries. The first is in forward-facing sonar ice shuttles. The second is in boats—whether FF sonar is in a shuttle or not—where an angler needs to power a single forward-facing sonar transducer and a 10-, 12-, or 15-inch graph. Lastly, use in fishing kayaks to power either a shuttle or an installed FF sonar unit.

Depending on where you live around the world, you could fall into any of the above categories – or occupy several like those in the Midwest setting the trend of fishing FF sonar shuttles for versatility; in the bow of the boat, their buddy’s boat, a rental boat in Canada, maybe in a fishing kayak, and then definitely on-the-ice come hardwater season—which is the case throughout much of the northern United States right now.

Social media phenom and expert filmmaker/angler, Jay Siemens, is one of the latest Norsk Lithium converts, relying on Norsk Lithium for long, trouble-free hours on the water and ice – by boat, kayak, and on the ice.

Regardless of the application, know that these batteries answer questions previously unanswered by other portable sonar batteries—and that’s primarily around run time, as Siemens explains in the video above.

Norsk Lithium VP of Strategy & Development, James Holst, explains: ”Because the lithium discharge curve is so flat, essentially constant from 90% down to 10%, there’s little change in voltage. The information available to the user through the voltmeter—whether it’s on your unit, the sonar unit, or the shuttle they’re using, it doesn’t give you an accurate idea of runtime. So, users have been in the dark. By adding the Norsk Guardian® app you can view estimate runtime down to a minute.”

With the recently updated Norsk Guardian app, the same goes for charging; you know exactly how long it’s going to take to charge that battery.

Holst goes on to note that the batteries also feature cool, new features like Deep Sleep™, which is the answer to “How do I properly store this battery when not in use?”

Deep Sleep 1944 X 1296

“Deep Sleep completely eliminates the chance of a passive draw that would deplete the battery,” says Holst. “And that’s super cool when installed in shuttles because the battery can be hard to get at to disconnect terminals. You don’t have to with new Norsk Guardian-enabled 14.8 volt batteries. You just pull up the battery in the app, and voila, you press a button, and the battery stores itself, no ripping apart shuttles or having to disconnect leads. But, if you do have access to the battery, there’s also a battery management button built right into the top of the battery. So, if you’re not an app guy and you want to check the state of charge or put it into Deep Sleep, you can do that with the simple press of a button.”

Yes, Norsk Lithium has done some really cool things to provide anglers with the information they need to venture confidently out on the ice or in the boat, knowing they are going to have enough power to get them through the day or more.

“The Norsk Guardian app is brilliant,” continues Holst, “for really connecting the user to the battery so they know exactly what’s going on. It’s kind of like a clean bill of health from your doctor. Every time you look at the app, you know exactly what’s going on with the battery.”

Dual USB Ports Designed For Harsh Conditions

Norsk Lithium also upgraded the USB ports on these two new batteries to grade IPX8 for use in harsh environments and exposure to slush and water.

“Used in kayak fishing, users are going to love this feature, which is an improvement from our former products,” says Holst. “While the goal is to stay upright and catch fish, kayak anglers do tip from time to time, and that could mean battery exposure. No worries now. These IPX8 rated USB ports are waterproof to 4.5 feet for 30 minutes. They won’t power devices when wet, but all you have to do is dry them out and you’re right back in business.”

While that’s an incredible peace of mind for kayak anglers using these batteries to power their sonar, GoPro cameras, and other accessories, it’s also going to be a big benefit for anyone that’s fishing in inclement conditions—from open water through ice fishing. In the off chance you get caught in a rainstorm, you are protected from water intrusion or damage.

Other Improvements: 4+2 Year Warranty, Smart Charger, & More

Besides ultimate portability, longer runtimes, Deep Sleep, Guardian App features, IPX8 USB ports, etc., there have been major improvements not only with features but in the overall quality of their construction. Case in point, Norsk Lithium has bumped their warrant from two years to standard four years for these batteries and 4 + 2 if the user registers them through the Guardian app. And that is a non-prorated warranty if completed within the first 90 days of purchase.

The included chargers have also been upgraded. Each comes with a standard, 3A color-coded charger that eliminates confusion of using the wrong charger. And the chargers are “smart” in the sense that they will not overcharge a battery; they simply switch off when fully charged and the user doesn’t have to do anything. If the battery is too cold to take a charge, simply wait for the battery to warm up and the charge will begin automatically.

Norsk Lithium has also upgraded all charger connections to use SAE, the standard connection in marine, ice fishing, and kayak fishing industries. SAE connections make it impossible to connect in reverse polarity. That connection is included with each battery so you don’t have to go looking for any adapters or special connectors. Everything you need to use the battery—whether it’s installed in a shuttle, a small battery box, or in the bow of your boat—is included at the time of purchase.

ABOUT: 14.8V 30Ah & 50Ah Lithium-Ion Battery with Charger

Norsk Lithium’s 14.8V 30Ah and 50Ah Lithium-ion batteries’ higher capacity ensures extended performance, allowing your sonar devices to run for longer periods without interruptions.

These advanced batteries include Dual IPX8-rated waterproof USB-A and USB-C ports, giving you the versatility to charge multiple devices in wet or harsh conditions. With the enhanced charge level indicator, you can quickly assess the battery’s remaining power, ensuring you’re always prepared for your time on the water.

Norsk Lithium® Launches a Huge Free Update for Their Norsk Guardian™ App

The smartphone has become an indispensable tool for modern anglers, offering GPS-enabled mapping apps, cameras to document catches, and social platforms to track bite patterns and connect with fellow anglers.

Norsk Lithium® has redesigned its Norsk Guardian™ App to enhance the user interface, delivering an improved user experience for controlling, monitoring, and organizing Norsk Lithium batteries. Unlike other apps anglers rely on for mapping or social networking, Norsk Guardian™ focuses on providing real-time performance metrics, health alerts, and seamless connectivity to ensure batteries perform at their best—whether on the water or off the grid.

Norsk Lithium listened to customer feedback and responded by adding Bluetooth® to the 14.8V line of Portable Sonar Batteries (Gen3), a feature previously only available in the Marine Battery line. This upgrade is a game-changer for hard water anglers, providing seamless connectivity to their portable sonar systems. With Bluetooth® integration, the Norsk Guardian™ App now connects to all Norsk Lithium Marine and 14.8V Portable Sonar Batteries (Gen3), allowing users to monitor key performance metrics and receive critical health alerts, ensuring peak performance in any season.

The main dashboard has been completely redesigned. Now you can sort your batteries into four categories; Marine, Recreational Vehicle, Sonar, and Off-Grid. Once you connect to a battery you can assign it to a group within those four main categories. These sub-categories give you more control over your marine battery setups. For example, suppose you separate your batteries into a trolling motor group and a starting battery group. In that case, you can put your trolling motor batteries into Deep Sleep and leave your starting battery on with an automatic bilge pump for overnight docking. You won’t find this level of functionality in any other lithium battery app.

Norsk Guardian App Dashboard V2

“It’s the only app that allows the user to display battery data from batteries connected in serial or parallel. We’re the only app that allows users to connect and view data from multiple batteries at one time and display it all on one page,” says Norsk VP of Strategy & Development, James Holst.

Holst continues: “You look at your phone and you have all the battery information from an entire boat battery installation – even 6, 8, or 10 batteries in one boat – and they’ll all be visible on one screen and you can see what they’re all doing at one time. Other battery apps require users to connect and disconnect to monitor each battery’s health. Or, if they do allow you to connect to more than one battery, they cannot monitor batteries connected in series or parallel. They only show you standalone batteries.”
