Norsk Lithium Marine Battery

Hey everybody, PJ Vick here In-Depth Outdoors co-host and owner of Great Lakes Angling. I wanted to talk to you a little bit about a switch that I made this year and that is from lead-acid batteries to these Norsk Lithium 100AH batteries. 

I spend a lot of time on the water and my clients see what kind of products I’m using. And they asked me just how easy is it to replace your lead-acid system with a lithium system? The answer to that question is ‘it is super simple’. I mean the hardest part about it is probably lifting out your old lead-acid batteries as they are super heavy.  

Now these batteries are 25 pounds. Super lightweight. A couple fingers I’m holding them up here. You can’t say that about too many other batteries on the market. As far as my system goes, this is a 36 volt system. I have a NOCO Genius onboard charger; it’s a 3 bank. 

The other question I get is “will my onboard charger work?” The answer is yes. As long as you have an AGM setting or a lithium setting on your onboard charger you’re good to go. You literally just disconnect the wires, drop these bad boys in, hook them back up, and you are ready to roll.

Another question that I get is ‘”are these batteries safe?” The answer to that question is yes as well. Norsk Lithium specifically has an internal battery management system (BMS). What that system allows you to do is it protects you from over charging, overheating and reverse polarity. This is a great piece of mind if you connected something wrong or had a positive touching with another positive, bridging. You have nothing to worry about; these batteries are protected.
