I recently converted my trolling motor set-up (Garmin Force with two group 24 AGMs) to a single 36 volt, 60Ah Norsk. The initial reason I was looking at lithium options, was to reduce weight in my boat. I run an outboard jet drive in a sometimes shallow, rocky river. The new set-up saved me just over 56lbs, and not only improved my drifting draft, but also noticeably enhanced the boat’s overall performance when running solo. As impressive as the weight savings were, the most dramatic change was the power and run time of my trolling motor. Anyone living in MN this summer can relate to the high water and incredible number of windy days. On the river, this is a double whammy that can make fishing seem more like work! I must give some credit to the Garmin Force for it has been incredible (and it has the flexibility to run 24 or 36 volt power)… But now, with 36 volts running through its wires, the combination has completely transformed my river fishing experience. Unbelievable power coupled with a seemingly endless capacity! So much capacity in fact, that the writing of this review has been repeatedly delayed because the battery just doesn’t seem to discharge. The Norsk Guardian App is an amazing tool for showing you the exact state of charge- NO MORE GUESSING when to charge your batteries! After four river trips ranging from 3 to 7 hours, and a weekend of windy fishing on the lake, the Guardian app showed the battery was still at 81%. Being able to instantly know the exact state of charge will bring me comfort when deciding how far to push into remote areas for extended periods when I’m away from the luxury of an outlet. And if knowing the exact state of charge isn’t enough, another nice feature in the app, is that it has the ability to predict your estimated remaining run time. Installing the battery was easy, and I recommend getting the battery tray. It fits the battery perfectly, is super sturdy, and comes powder coated and pre-drilled for easy mounting. I also purchased an on-board charger which was actually smaller than the old AGM unit I removed. I let it charge the battery overnight after installing the pair-and I haven’t had the chance to use it again because I can’t seem to discharge the battery!
